Bottom line: he inspired about 50 people to give up their Sunday afternoon last weekend and make PB&J sandwiches and feed the homeless. https://app.e2ma.net/app/view:CampaignPublic/id:29489.1787444168/rid:c1814f1deea5d9ae1e0e6c14b773efd6

David Weinstein, Ego video blogger, on Jimmy Kimmel on ABC

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xb6L5fRI15E - At exactly 5 minutes into this video you get to see David Weinstein from Blog Your Ego on Ego TV choked on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live. Christian continues to ignite and "re-spark" his signature Ed Hardy brand. Though it may be over-exposed in LA, many people are just now realizing what an interesting and creative brand Ed Hardy really is.

In short, Christian is a marketing genius, and I am not just saying that becuase he advertised on Ego TV. He has become a fashion icon in a very short period of time, and is able to leverage his brands, one at a time, to build new brands and introduce new themes to consumers. In short, Christian knows how to get celebrities and trend-setters to wear his clothes. They become authentic friends with Christian, and wear the clothes in front of paparazzzi, etc. Congratulations to Christian on a great show today!

LA Fashion Week approaching

Perhaps you have seen some of our other coverage of LA Fashion Week from last spring. LA Direct Magazine is hosting a kick-off party at Kress on Hollywood Blvd. We will keep you posted.

Politics, DC careers

DC is a wild, wild place. Just ask all the DC interns and those on the paths to success around DC. It has been said that LA is where you find culture, NYC is the money, and of course DC for government. Ego TV will explore politics, and the young, successful, and influential people making serving our country in DC, state governments, and local/ county governments. There are many interesting careers, from serving in Congress to working for the FBI. Several of our shows on Ego TV focus on culture, but we do not currently have a young, up-and-coming politician or DC-insider on Ego TV, nor any base in DC. I did see a young mayor on CNN (I think he was 20 years old!). Does anyone know who this kid was on CNN? I have spoken with several Political Action Committees in California about video blogging, but I want the focus to be "how to succeed in politics/ government work" and not necessarily partisan politics.

Emmy wrap-up

It was a great weekend with all the Emmy excitement in Los Angeles. After making some gifting lounge rounds, I headed to a few Emmy parties. What's a gifting lounge you may wonder?? Basically, companies give free products (clothes, tech toys, etc) to celebrities, trendsetters, press, and execs with the hopes that the products will be talked about/ worn/ etc. Party highlight: the Vanity Fair party at the historic Chateau Marmount on Sunset Blvd. Tiny Fey was there and recognized Gummi Bear, the host of Ego Scoop. The enitre cast of 30 Rock including Tracy Morgan was there. I ran into some NBC friends. Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots was lounging on a couch with two hookers. More updates to come....

New Shows on Ego TV

Dr. Botox will launch new weekly episodes, starting soon! I will keep you all posted. Also, we interviewed the New Kids on the Block Production Manager, Bobby Schneider recently for "Anatomy of a Rock Star." He is currently on an arena concert tour with New Kids on the Block. Very, very interesting - he's worked as a Tour and Production Manager for Third Eye Blind, the Deftones, David Bowie, and many more artists. You won't believe what one of the celebrities asked Bobby to do to her dress before every show. Wow. Best of all, Bobby gives us great insight into what Tour Managers do, how to break into the biz of rock and roll, and how your band lands a Tour Manager. Great advice, and a fantastic guy! The gifting lounges, parties, and industry events are in full swing. As most of you know, Ego TV's mission is not about simply hitting glamorous entertainment industry red carpets around Hollywood (although I will be out having some fun this weekend and promoting Ego TV) and doing the same stuff you see on every other entertainment network, show or site.

We want to find the people out there working hard - in front of the camera and behind the camera, and tell the stories of how they got to where they are, and what it takes to succeed in the cut-throat businesses surrounding the Emmy's. The Emmy weekend is the perfect opportunity for you to learn from great directors, actors, PR guru's, production teams, the people who pamper the stars, the fashionistas, and more. How did they become a publicist for an Emmy-award winner? Who gave them their big break? What does it take to dress a star for an award show? All of these questions are the focus for Ego's shows.

Where do we find these great people? We are hitting the parties and events, including: the HBO party on Sunday, The Little Black Dress party at "The Sunset" in WeHo, the Liberace Penthouse gifting lounge, Life on Wilshire, and many more! Talk to you soon.

Jimmy Hutch

Twitter + Qik

Wow. The clients are BIG names like Burger King, and this is a unique opportunity for up-and-comers working in the industry. According to Edelman's press release: "The studio will solicit and develop creative content, such as television shows, short and feature films, and "webisodes" from screenwriters, producers, and directors who will have the opportunity to compete for major assignments from top marketers."

see http://studios.edelman.com/news

My opinion: Most of the submissions Edelman receives will be from amateur creatives. Most of the submissions will NOT be quality and will NOT be acceptable to present to clients. Why? Those that submit ideas get a mere $2,500 IF Edelman exercises their option. And you automatically grant an exclusive option to them upon submitting.

There are many talented people out there trying to "break" into the biz. The true and authentic talents always rise to the top. BUT, they are often discovered by agents, managers, and friends of friends of friends who refer them to agents and managers. OR, they are independent and they read the fine print to protect themselves (see below).

I am not trashing Edelman, but I am curious why the terms of the submissions are SO BAD. You have to grant a 3-month option beyond the client deadline, and if they exercise the option you get a mere $2,500 and MAY be considered to further develop the project with Edelman. What?! Bye bye idea.

This might be a good opportunity for a college kid wanting some extra cash, but professionals CANNOT work on a budget and terms like that.

However, the clients listed ARE HUGE, and if selected, would do wonders for up-and-comers' resumes. Also, this is a great way to forge some relationships with young, up-and-comers.

My conclusion: this was a "feel good" move for Edelman to "hype" with clients and the press.

Please post your comments. Thanks everyone.

Here are the Terms taken directly fromt the Edelman website:

"By submitting the Submitted Material you agree that you grant Edelman an exclusive, irrevocable, royalty free, worldwide option to obtain the license (beginning on the date of submission and ending three (3) months after the submission deadline stated in the assignment) and right, but not the obligation, to use, copy, modify, display, distribute, download, store, reproduce, transmit, publish, transfer, adapt, create derivative works for the purpose of considering whether to option and/or use the Submitted Material further. During the term of the initial three (3) month option period, Edelman and/or its client shall have the right to exercise the option in exchange for the payment to individual/team of $2,500. Upon exercise of the option, Edelman and/or its client shall obtain the exclusive irrevocable, worldwide license and right, but not the obligation, in perpetuity, to use, copy, modify, display, distribute, download, store, reproduce, transmit, publish, transfer, adapt, create derivative works in any manner, in entirety or a portion of, your Submitted Material and in all media now known or hereinafter developed. You and/or your team will be provided creative credit and will be considered for inclusion in the development/production team." How many of these tips are true? I know the FREE 411 is true.

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave >> emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an>> emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do>> with it:>> FIRST>> Subject: Emergency>> The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112.>> If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile;>> network and there is an emergency, dial 112 >> and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the>> emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be>> dialed even if the keypad is locked. >> Try it out. (I have entered in my cell phone number directory.)>> SECOND>> Subject: Have you locked your keys in the car?>> Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy >> someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in>> the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on>> their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about >> a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press>> the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end.>> Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys >> to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles>> away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for>> your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk). >> Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our>> car over a cell phone!">> THIRD>> Subject: Hidden Battery Power>> Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys >> *3370# Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument>> will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged>> when you charge your cell next time. (I have entered the access # >> in cell phone directory.)>> FOURTH>> How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?>> To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following>> digits on your phone: * # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the >> screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and>> keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone>> your service provider and give them this code. They will then be >> able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM>> card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get>> your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't >> use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no>> point in people stealing mobile phones. And Finally....(I have made>>note of my phone's serial number.>> FIFTH >> Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for>> 411 inform ation calls when they don't have to. Most of us do not>> carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this >> situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411>> information option, simply dial: (800) FREE 411, or (800) 373-3411>> without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell >> phone now. (I have entered this # in my cell phone directory.)>>>>

Everything Old Is New

Random thoughts:

Remember Napster? Remember when it was shut down and the RIAA filed lawsuites against 12-year-olds for illegal fire-sharing. YouTube is the Napster of video, except it's not shut down (yet) and it does not require P2P. Video is more complicated, and Google's acquisition elevated YouTube to a new level. YouTube should be used as a marketing tool for content owners. Placing a 10 or 20-second clip on YouTube is effective and this was proven by David Letterman. These clips drive viewers to the TV broadcasts and to the websites of the shows.

Another issue: Viacom, NBC, and others have removed content, but how will they ever stop infringers from putting a hit song into the background of a video?

Another issue: How do you find out about new TV shows? Usually you're watching one show, and you see a promo for another show. Maybe you go Google the show's name or star if you liked the promo, or maybe you ask a friend if they've heard about it on Myspace. My point: in this world where everyone is creating content, promotion is a major problem. People are already bombarded with media messages, and now we have Podcasters, bloggers, etc trying to get their voices heard.

Another issue: Itunes is not as clean and easy as it used to be. Going to iTunes to find your TV shows is like going to Wal-Mart to buy something- it's all things to all people. They have every show you could possibly want. Most shows are sold a la carte. Many of the podcasts are free.

Jimmy Hutcheson and Hutch Media, LLC

Ego TV is a brand owned by Hutch Media, LLC.
